Specialist Musculoskeletal Medicine & Sports Doctors
Musculoskeletal Medicine (sometimes abbreviated to MSK Medicine) is a specialised field which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of problems affecting bones and joints as well as muscles, tendons and ligaments. These issues can involve injury as well as disease processes.
Medically trained, our doctors have substantive additional qualifications and training in their field of work. They are experts at diagnosis and perform a wide range of treatments such as:
Injection Treatments:
Both landmark and ultrasound guided as clinically indicated using:
- Corticosteroid,
- Hyaluronic acid (viscosupplements) usually with Ostenil or Durolane products.
- Autologous blood and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections. For the latter we use Arthrex ACP and ACP Max systems
- Dextrose (This simple agent has been in use for many years for treating joint instability caused by ligament laxity and more recently osteoarthritis)
- Arthrosamid
Injection techniques include:
- Peripheral (non-spinal) joint and soft tissue injections
- Specialist spinal injections such as caudal epidural steroid injections, erector spinae plane blocks, injections to facet joints and to sacroiliac joints
- Prolotherapy
Radial Shockwave therapy
Our doctors deliver this treatment using the Storz MASTERPULS® MP100 radial shockwave device
Advice on Rehabilitation through Exercise
,The management plan may include treatments such as injection but this also frequently include rehab through exercise as part of the overall strategy. Our doctors can advise on exercise and where more comprehensive supervised rehabilition is recommended, they can refer on to a physiotherapist, sports therapist or other appropriate healthcare professional.
Advice on Lifestyle Measures
For many conditions, a “quick fix” only provides benefit in the short term and does not prevent the problem coming back. A more comprehansive solution takes into account any preventative lifestyle measures that can be taken to give a more long term solution.
Medical services at the clinic are regulated by The Care Quality Commission.
